Description:

Since 1912, LSS has been fulfilling its mission “to create a better world by serving people in need” by addressing hunger, housing, healing and hope. LSS is a network of hope operating a13-county food pantry system, two homeless shelters, a domestic violence shelter, 21 affordable housing communities and other services that uplift families and strengthen communities. LSS also operates several assisted living and skilled care facilities and a home health care service that generates excess revenue with the goal to offset the overhead of our social service programs.

Mission:

To create a better world by serving people in need.

Programs and Services:

Every day, Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio provides help and opportunity to people in need. Through the LSS Food Pantries, we provide hunger relief to a significant percent of Franklin County’s eligible families. What’s more, families get to select the balanced and nutritious food they prefer to eat from each USDA food group. In addition, our pantries offer nutrition workshops, seasonal support to help children and families through the holiday season, and linkage to Ohio Benefit Bank. LSS’ Faith Mission homeless shelters exist to provide caring support to homeless men and women as they transition to independent living. This is accomplished through access to emergency shelter, nutritious meals, job and life skill support, case management services and a clinic with dental, vision and medical care. Additionally, The Community Kitchen at Faith Mission serves three meals a day to anyone who is hungry. LSS CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence is the only domestic violence safe haven in Franklin County and offers 34 beds, a 24-hour crisis and information hotline, counseling services, support groups and legal and community advocates for those impacted by domestic violence. LSS also operates several other programs in Franklin County, including eight affordable housing facilities, Kensington Place independent and assisted living and LSS Home Health Care. LSS Disaster Response is always ready to send trained volunteers to help communities recover from disaster. Freshbox Catering, LSS’ social enterprise, provides support to homeless and formerly homeless individuals by providing the opportunity to gain job skills and employment history.
