Founded in 1933, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio is a non-profit prevention-based agency providing mentoring programs for at-risk children and youth, primarily from single parent homes.  Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio serves children and youth ages 6-18. Our network of affiliated offices serves kids in several Ohio counties! Our main office is in Columbus, and our family of affiliates includes: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware County, Camp Oty’Okwa, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland, Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Ohio, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Springfield Ohio, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Union County and MENTOR of Central Ohio. Vice President of Resource Development

 

Reports To: President and CEO

 

Status: Exempt

 

Position Vision

 

To position Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio in the marketplace as a preferred non-profit of choice in giving and volunteering and to secure the immediate and future financial and volunteer needs of the agency.

 

Essential Duties:

 

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and CEO to create a fund development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization

  • Implement the fund development plans in accordance with ethical fundraising principles

  • Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved

  • Monitor trends in the community and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary

  • Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fund raising processes are carried out in a timely manner

  • Develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures for the development department which reflect ethical fundraising practices

  • Oversee the planning and execution of special fundraising events as specified in the fund development plan to generate funds for the organization

 

  • Identify and cultivate corporate, community and individual prospects for the organization’s fundraising priorities
  • Oversee the administration of a donor mailing list and database which respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information

 

  • Coordinate in-kind donations

 

  • Ensure accurate and timely input of gift and related information into donor CRM platform; ensure timely production and dissemination or gift acknowledgements and tax documentation, as set by department guidelines.

 

  • Recruit, interview, and select well-qualified fund development staff

  • Collaborates with Finance, Marketing and Public Relations, and Program staff and volunteers to increase overall giving to BBBSCO to further its vision and goals

  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Public Relations staff in preparation of materials for use in the annual campaign and other requests for funding; implementing donor engagement and recognition events; appropriately recognizing financial support by companies and donors; and providing ongoing communications to donors and prospects on the impact and value of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio.

  • Provide guidance and direction with subsidiary agencies and county offices in fundraising opportunities.

  • Works with Finance to assure the accuracy of data base information, pledge recording and processing, and that relevant billing notices are accurate and timely.

  • Supervises and leads the Resource Development work of the organization, which includes developing strategy and direction of the annual campaign.

  • Stays abreast of resource development trends, giving patterns and best practices; is the subject matter expert for the organization and guides the RD team and BBBSCO in implementing best practices as appropriate for this community, its needs and our donors.

  • Assists senior management to cultivate relationships with community leaders in order to involve these individuals in key volunteer or board positions within the organization.

  • Manages and coaches RD staff, including goal setting, performance planning and review, and professional development of staff.

 

  • Serves in the absence of the President and CEO on Resource Development matters. Provides President and CEO with comprehensive reports, as requested on all Resource Development matters.
  • Develop annual budget for Resource Development department.

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, and five to ten years of successful fund development or sales experience.  Development or sales management experience preferred.

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; an effective listener and presenter.
