Summer Camp Counselor

“Be a part of something special!

Godman Guild Association is looking for camp counselors for the summer of 2024 to have fun, be outdoors, and impact the lives of central Ohio youth. We have a total of 3 camp programs at Camp Mary Orton: Discovery Day Camp, Adventure Academy, and Summer Youth Empowerment Program. Each one has its own special focus in hands-on learning activities, cooperative games, education, and nature-based exploration; but we’re all in it together to make summers a fun, meaningful experience for children aged 6 to 14.

Counselors take leadership in making sure that the camp is successful and enjoyable to all campers, and that activities are a positive growth experience. Our staff are important role models and leaders.

This is a summer-long position with dates ranging from May 28 to August 9 2024 including pre-camp training. Actual work hours may vary from 8 am to 8pm Monday through Friday depending on camp assignment but will have nights and weekends free.

Camp Counselors:

– Take primary responsibility for health, safety, well-being, and happiness of campers

– Make connections with campers and develop meaningful, appropriate relationships with each youth

– Actively manage camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, and apply age-appropriate management techniques when necessary

– Provide co-leadership and direction to by guiding them through their daily schedule within set time limits

– Co-plan and facilitate schedule free blocks, weekly choice or rotation activities with a mind to age appropriateness, personal growth, and fun.

– Enjoy nature

– Laugh easily and love to be part of the fun

Qualifications:

– Meet minimum age requirement of 17 years old by June 2024

– Pass a Criminal Background check per state requirements (required)

– Enjoy working in a cooperative setting and are invested in tomorrow’s successes of today’s youth

– Physical capability to provide leadership and maintain safety of children during a variety of activities including ropes courses, zip-lines, swimming etc.

– Physically capable of being on your feet for periods of time over a full workday and able to navigate some uneven terrain.

– Ability to spend a majority of time outdoors being active

– Completion of high school diploma preferred

– CPR/First Aid certification (provided free with employment)

 

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Salary: $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 38 – 45 per week
