Mental Health Counselor

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Department: Outpatient Treatment

Job Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Clinical Supervisor

Work Schedule: M-F, 9am to 6pm

Position Supervised: None

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The outpatient mental health counselor facilitates individualized, culturally competent, and evidenced based counseling and psychosocial interventions. The counselor will be responsible for comprehensive diagnostic assessments, goal setting, treatment planning, delivering interventions, assessing progress, and discharge. The counselor is a member of an interdisciplinary team with a focus on holistic treatment of mental disorders, specifically trauma related disorders and dual diagnosis.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops, assigns, and monitors individualized treatment and Continuing Care Plans in cooperation with an Outpatient Treatment Team.
  • Reduces the impact of mental health disorders in the community by providing counseling to clients seeking stability.
  • Completes day-to-day services documentation as required by accreditation bodies, and Community for New Direction.
  • Provides regular updates to referral sources, approved family members, and medical providers on client progress, lack of progress, attendance and treatment outcomes.
  • Counsels with emphasis on prevention of suicide; stress management; problems with self-esteem; and issues associated with aging and mental and emotional health.
  • Serves as client advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  • Develops therapeutic processes, and works with clients to define goals, plan action and gain insight.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor in order to promote the overall mission and vision of CND.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field. Must have an active LSW or LPC Licensure, with experience in assessing, diagnosing, counseling, and treating mental and emotional disorders.

  • Ability to analyze, think critically, and solve problems.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work with diverse population.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Computer Skills: Proficient in use of personal computer and related software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) use of office equipment (e.g., fax, copier, printer).

 

Other Requirements Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and pass both a criminal background check and a pre-employment drug screen.

Must be fully Covid-19 vaccinated.

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Variable per availability, will work directly with Clinical Supervisor to create a monthly schedule.

COVID-19 considerations: Must be fully Covid vaccinated.
