Job Description:
Help Me Grow Family Support Specialist
Action for Children, central Ohio’s Child Care Resource and Referral agency, is looking for an experienced individual to join its Help Me Grow (HMG) home visiting team. Duties include conducting home visits with the goal of providing: child health and development screening; referrals to service providers; family support, information and education; parent education that focuses on parent/child interactions, developmental instruction and promotion of early literacy. Family Support Specialists are required to complete thorough case notes of each visit and enter those into the program system.
Qualifications Include:
• BA/BS Degree in Social Work, Human Development, Early Childhood, or a related field
• Knowledge of early childhood development for ages 0-5 years
• Strongly prefer at least one year of home visitation experience
• Possess or be eligible to obtain the Healthy Families Ohio Home Visitor Full
Credential including, ODH required tools, Growing Great Kids curriculum
• Familiarity with the following a plus: Healthy Families America model and
Growing Great Kids curriculum
• Familiarity with OCHIDS database product a plus
• Experience with or knowledge of early childhood assessments, including ASQ–3, ASQ:SE–2, along with Help Me Grow screening and assessment tools
• Experience in providing services to culturally diverse communities/families
• Knowledge of community resources within Franklin County
General Requirements:
• Demonstrate ability to be highly motivated, creative, flexible and be a team player
• Demonstrate skills in time-management, organization, effective communication
• Maintain perseverance to keep families engaged in program
• Proficiency with technology and experience with Microsoft Office Suite
• Bilingual in Spanish a plus
• Valid driver’s license and car insurance with own transportation
• Understanding of how intersecting systems of racial, gender, and class discrimination shape conditions for early childhood educators, child care programs, and the children and families they serve
• A desire to contribute to a workplace and profession which values collaboration, diversity, growth, and respect for all people
