Job Description:

As an Early Childhood Teacher, you will work to maximize a child’s first 2,000 days using developmentally appropriate and child-centered teaching practices in either an infant/toddler (ages 6 weeks to 3 years) or preschool (ages 3 to 5 years). Along with your teaching team, you will align curricular outcomes with individual child needs to support the development of each child’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. You will help manage day-to-day operational activities of your classroom and ensure a safe and stimulating learning environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. As a teacher, you should be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the young learners and work collaboratively with our social work team in the Family Resource Center to support parental concerns and family goals.

By serving as an Early Childhood Teacher at South Side Early Learning you will join a community committed to advancing early childhood education. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
  • Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and progress reports.
  • Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
  • Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care center.
  • Follow all center policies and state regulations.
  • Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of professional child care experience at a highly rated Step Up To Quality program preferred.
  • High energy.
  • Ability to work well with others, team player.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • An understanding of child development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to be flexible
  • Willing take professional development trainings.
  • Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.

Educational Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, and CDA (Child Development Associates) required
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl.
  • A specific vision ability will be required including the ability to see up close and up to a certain distance, to see colors, have peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • May be required to lift children of all sizes.

Employment Type

Full-time and part-time positions are available.

Compensation

Compensation based on credentialing and experience. Benefits for full-time employees include health, dental, and vision insurance options, 401k, generous paid-time-off policy, and discounted child care.
