POSITION OVERVIEW
City Year Columbus is seeking a Development Manager who is responsible for supporting the overall operations efforts of the City Year Development team. Reporting to the Managing Director of Development, the Development Manager partners with site leadership to understand priorities and business goals, develop strategies to meet the organization’s needs, and identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and foundations. This position will also partner with other City Year Columbus’ departments and staff to ensure that site-wide goals are met, including, but not limited to, the AmeriCorps member applicant interview process, stakeholder engagement, event and service day participation, and cross-departmental committees.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Donor Management & Prospect Generation

Collaborate with and support the Managing Director of Development to build relationships with prospect, new, current and lapsed donors to establish their commitment to City Year Columbus

Create and implement a pipeline strategy for identifying and cultivating new corporate and Foundation donors, with an individual goal of securing new annual program donations and annual gala sponsorships. Take lead on soliciting multi-year Foundation investments

Document and maintain clear and timely records to track contacts, donor giving, notes, and assist in the maintenance of an accurate database

Support all individual giving efforts, including annual giving campaigns, the Red Jacket Society major giving program, Board giving, alumni giving, and fundraising events

Work closely with the Managing Director of Development and Site Board to build a prospect portfolio and ensure the flow of prospects into the giving pipeline, from identification through solicitation

Develop and manage innovative solicitation strategies to engage new individuals within the Columbus community through cold calls, attending events, networking, and more

Responsible for managing grant pipeline, grant proposals, grant calendar and all work product generating from shared services grant writer
Cultivation & Stewardship Activities

Work with the Managing Director of Development to develop, execute and evaluate strategies to engage individual donors through outreach, education, invitations to special events, and personal contacts

Lead fundraising projects that focus on lower level and entry level gifts (<$10,000), including annual appeals, alumni, the Big Give. Giving Tuesday and online campaigns

Leverage City Year events, such as the annual gala and other select gatherings, to raise awareness and to secure financial resources for our work.

Collaborate with the Managing Director of Development to create and implement donor communications and acknowledgements related to cultivation and stewardship of donors and prospects

Collaborate with Managing Director of Development to ensure volunteer opportunities are available for corporate partners

Manage special events, including Red Jacket Society events and additional stewardship events
Organizational Initiatives & Site Support

Work closely with the Managing Director of Development to understand priorities and business goals and develop strategies to meet the organization’s needs

Partner with City Year Columbus’ departments and staff to ensure that site-wide goals are met, including, but not limited to stakeholder engagement, event and participation, and cross-departmental committees

Ensure that board materials are updated and support board meetings (ex. documenting notes)

Assist with MLK Day, Opening day, Annual Gala, and other site-wide designated events
Communications Management
-
In partnership with the Managing Director of Development and Development Coordinator, strategize and create marketing strategies utilizing social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and print to identify and secure new supporters, fully leverage existing relationships, increase multi-year commitments, and maintain or elevate current commitments
QUALIFICATIONS

Passion for education and youth development
-
BA/BS or relevant work experience required
-
3-5 years of relevant experience with donor and stakeholder relationship development and management

Familiarity with digital fundraising platforms and Microsoft Office with adaptability to learn new systems

Strong research skills – ability to identify and research donor prospects

Ability to interpret and present data, reports, and analytics to various stakeholders
-
Experience planning and supporting successful individual donor cultivation and retention events
-
Demonstrate excellent written, oral, and organizational skills; highly detail oriented
-
Efficient time management skills and ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects
-
Demonstrate a willingness to work in a collaborative and strong team-based organization
-
Knowledge of Columbus local business, civic, and cultural networks is desirable
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This full-time position is entitled to an annual compensation of $53,000 – $60,000, commensurate with experience. Employees may participate in all benefit programs that City Year establishes and makes available to eligible employees, under (and subject to all provisions of) the plan documents that govern those programs.
