Description:
Columbus Literacy Council (CLC) is a steady and effective presence in our community using interdisciplinary approaches to improve the capacity of underserved, at-risk populations. As a dynamic, diverse, and innovative agency, CLC provides services to individuals, families, and neighborhoods throughout Franklin County. With a focus on excellence, coordinated care and relationship-based case management, CLC offers a spectrum of services from pre-K through Adults and seeks to engage, empower, educate and elevate those we serve. CLC increases employability by embedding job readiness core skills (punctuality, organization, communication, perseverance, self-motivation, leadership, cultural awareness and teamwork) into our programs from p-K through adults. CLC enables future education by helping each individual start where they are, develop an individualized plan to move forward and target activities to achieve those goals. Whether the goals are to learn the alphabet, obtain a certificate or pass the GED, CLC knows education and life-long learning are vital. CLC encourages civic involvement and helps others learn how our systems work. From completing the census, registering to vote, filing taxes to participating in community committees, classroom councils and organizations that promote social welfare, CLC works with individuals to help them understand how they can use their voice and find a place to connect. CLC promotes family stability and support by serving the intergenerational family units and providing or connecting the families to the resources and skills they need to break the barriers that the constraints of poverty have created. CLC is committed to supporting a system that opposes injustice, racism and inequality in all areas of governance and throughout all services.
