More Like Us: A Summary of Data on Nonprofit Board representation in Central Ohio
In 2019, United Way formed a council consisting of experts from the public, private and nonprofit sectors to explore whether or not board training programs and other efforts had made central Ohio’s nonprofit boards representative of our community more than we had seen on a national level. The council shaped the survey that went to United Way’s funded partner network, which netted an 83 percent organizational response rate from the 41 organizations. There were 806 board members surveyed, and 35 percent responded.
This is the summary of the survey. The initial findings indicated we had a lot of work ahead of us. This summary was a catalyst for a community conversation about creating boards that are representative of our community to ensure everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
