We’re thrilled to share some good news that will help more Ohio families stay safely in their homes.
The Ohio Siemer Collaborative, a partnership of six local United Ways—in Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, and Toledo—has worked since 2018 to prevent families from losing their housing through the eviction prevention model developed by the Siemer Institute. This collaborative approach helps families facing financial hardship stay in stable housing, keep children in their schools, and access the support they need to thrive.
Earlier this year, $4 million in funding for the Collaborative was included in the Governor’s proposed budget. However, it was later removed in the final version of the state budget. Thanks to strong advocacy and collaboration with the Governor’s Office, we’re proud to announce that the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) will provide $4 million over the next two years to continue supporting this important work!
At the state level, United Way of Central Ohio will administer this new TANF grant (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) from ODJFS for 2026–2027, ensuring that the funds go directly to where they’re needed most. Eight Siemer Institute–affiliated programs across Ohio—Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo, Akron and three right here in Columbus (YMCA, Salvation Army and Physicians Care Connection)—will share in this support.
This commitment means that thousands of families across Ohio will have a stronger chance to build lasting stability and avoid the trauma of eviction. It’s a victory made possible by dedicated partners, public leaders and generous supporters like you.
