Removing Barriers for Families Builds Foundation for Student Success
Robert Brown’s story begins in Linden, where the Greater Columbus Community House (GCCH, formerly St. Stephen’s Community House) was part of his own childhood. A retired Columbus City Schools employee, Robert serves as GCCH’s summer STEAM camp site coordinator and is a trusted role model and friend for the kids.
GCCH’s summer STEAM camp keeps kids engaged, prevents interrupted learning and gives working families peace of mind. With leaders like Robert, children are not only staying on track, they’re building confidence, curiosity and a love of learning that carries into the school year. Robert feels fortunate to be able to pour his experience and care into the next generation, creating a space where children feel safe, encouraged and excited to learn.
“We want families to thrive, not just survive,” says Kristin Giger, GCCH’s director of youth services. “And in order to do that, education is a big part of that.”
Through United Way of Central Ohio’s Success by Third Grade movement, your investment in GCCH and other local nonprofits strengthens families and children. The early learning center, Out of School Time programs and Mid-Ohio Market food pantry at GCCH work together to remove barriers for families and build a strong foundation for student success.
