Roy grew up poor and couldn’t afford to attend college. For years, he worked low-wage sales jobs, barely making ends meet. Determined to follow his passion for computers, he quit one job but then was laid off a month later from his sales job in the tech industry. At his very lowest point, Roy discovered an ad for a free workforce development program funded in part by United Way. Armed with time, determination and a love for technology, he earned multiple certifications through the program that opened doors and gave him the confidence he needed to advance his career and transform his future. Best of all, Roy is now able to provide opportunities for his son and give him a better life.
