We Fight for Jaylin on the North Side

When Jaylin and his younger brothers arrived to live with their grandmother, she wasn’t quite sure what to do. “I had girls. I don’t know about guy stuff.” Fortunately, each boy found a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters. Fifteen-year-old Jaylin has really connected with his Big Brother, Matt. “Having a mentor has changed my life – honestly,” he says. His grandma appreciates the mentors consistent, dependable presence in their lives and the way the boys can talk with them openly. Jaylin, once quiet and unwilling to open up, can now be heard laughing and joking, which is pure joy to his grandmother. Now, “He’s just got a whole different outlook on life, period,” she says.
