Seeking Community Service Projects

January 31st, 2017

The United Way of Central Ohio is seeking community services projects which will be executed by members of both the Project Diversity and Pride Leadership board leadership programs. These programs are designed to develop competent individuals that can serve on the boards of local not-for-profit organizations, with the intent to diversify volunteer leadership. Project Diversity is for minority/people of color and Pride Leadership is for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender (LGBT) individuals.

A condition for the successful completion of each program is the execution of a successful community service project for a local not-for-profit agency.  Both Project Diversity and Pride Leadership participants are seeking general ideas of projects that they could work on for your organization.  For example, last year Project Diversity created an independent living experience for young people aging out of the foster care system.  Pride Leadership introduced the community to the Trailblazers Program of Stonewall Columbus.

Requirements for Community Service Projects:
1. Community service project must be available May 2017 through September/October 2017.
2. The agency/organization must be an active collaborative partner in the project, and the project must present an opportunity to build capacity for the individuals that it serves or for the agency as a whole.
3. There must be a paid non-profit agency/organization staff liaison who agrees to work with the project team and who will continue to work on the project after the project team members have completed their roles (if necessary).
4. The non-profit agency/organization cannot be the employer of a group project team member.

If interested, we ask that you provide a brief description (one or two paragraphs) of the community service opportunity(s) that exist with your organization. All submissions are due by Monday, March 30, 2017.  All questions and submissions should be sent to Garth Weithman at Organizations will be notified in early May on which project(s) were selected.
