At the end of the tournament, the two agencies (one from each division) that have raised the most donations will each receive $10,000. Who is eligible to participate?

Agencies that receive program funding through United Way of Central Ohio’s people centered investments.

When does Knock Out Poverty take place?

Week one (all agencies): Begins Monday, March 19 at 8AM and closes Sunday, March 25 at Midnight.

Week two (top eight earners from week one): Begins Monday, March 26 at 8AM and closes Friday, March 30 at Noon.

How much of donations go to United Way/are there fees?

Participating nonprofits retain 100% of donations raised and all donor information collected during the tournament, regardless of advancement. The tournament champion in each of two divisions will also receive half of the $20,000 grand prize pool.

What is the minimum amount someone can give?

For a gift to be counted, it must be made in full dollar increments. When deciding who advances/wins, we will not count cents towards the total.

How are credit card processing fees handled?

Donors will be responsible for the credit card processing fees, which are set at 1.9% + $0.30 per transaction.

In the event of a tie, what will happen?

We do not anticipate that there will be a tie, but if one does occur United Way of Central Ohio will hold a Facebook live broadcast on Monday, March 25 at 9a.m. where the two organization names will be put into a bowl and one will be selected to move forward.

How are the two brackets divided?

Organizations are placed into one of two divisions based on their 2016 designation amounts through the United Way of Central Ohio campaign.

We had a donor make a gift right before the tournament. Can we count that towards our bracket challenge total?

No, only gifts made through the official website, knockoutpoverty.org, will be eligible towards the organizational totals. However, if you know a large donor plans to make a gift soon, feel free to encourage them to donate to you during Round 1 on the website.

What is turn around time on agencies receiving their donations and their list of donors?

Agencies can expect to receive funds raised through Knock out Poverty as well as a list of donors within two weeks of the close of each session. Session 1 funds and donor information will be provided to agencies by Monday, April 9. Session 2 funds and donor information should be provided to agencies by Friday, April 13.

From the donor perspective, will their donation be recorded as a gift to United Way or the non-profit?

All gifts received will be recognized as donations to the United Way of Central Ohio with a designation to the specified agency. The donor will receive an email receipt from the United Way of Central Ohio. Upon receipt of their donor list, agencies will be able to thank donors as they see appropriate.

Will a gift through Knock Out Poverty count towards a corporate campaign contribution?

No, gifts given through the Knock Out Poverty website are part of a special agency fundraising appeal and will not apply towards a previously committed workplace campaign pledge.
