Leadership for the Changing Face of Columbus

United Way of Central Ohio initiated Project Diversity in 1989 to give underrepresented communities a voice, diversifying all levels of the organizations they serve. Over the years, it has demonstrably increased the number of people of color who are qualified and well prepared to make decisions in our greater community.

Project Diversity is a leadership training program featuring an intense 8-month curriculum to prepare people of color (African-Americans, Asians, Hispanics, Native Americans and other minorities) for effective service on nonprofit boards or in leadership positions. Program participants not only gain knowledge and skills, they also build confidence. To be considered, applicants must submit a current resume and complete an application, as well as demonstrate an interest in participating in community service.

The program consists of 10 to 12 sessions that are 2 to 4 hours in length. The sessions are conducted during the early part of the business day.  Enrolling in Project Diversity workshops costs each participant a tuition fee of $500, which is usually covered by his/her employer.  The majority of the program cost is paid by support from corporate sponsors.
