ABOUT THE CHILDHOOD LEAGUE CENTER

Founded in 1945, The Childhood League Center serves 450+ children each year who are under 6 and who are at risk or have special needs. We have two major programs: Early Intervention and Preschool for which The Center provides the best education, interventions and therapies. POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the financial activities of The Center including producing accurate financial records prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles as well as overseeing/maintaining accounts payable, accounts receivable, and all other accounting functions. The Senior Accountant will support The Center and COO in managing the financial affairs of the company. This position will work autonomously as you grow in the role and gain more knowledge.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Finance and Accounting

  • Oversee and implement all functions related to the accounting and finance aspects of the organization
  • Produce accurate and timely monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Manage accounts receivables and a timely and accurate system for billing
  • Implementation of process and controls for deposits and bank reconciliations
  • Maintain records for all purchases for the organization
  • Prepare and assign necessary financial information entering, posting and balancing data in all ledgers, journals and registers
  • Reconcile petty cash as necessary
  • Prepare, enter and print accounts payable and vendor payments
  • Maintain accurate accounting of cash flow and management of investments in collaboration with COO
  • Prepare financial statements for early intervention, preschool teams on a monthly basis
  • Prepare 3-5 year budgeting and forecasting for all programs at The Center
  • Prepare financial reports for advancement team to submit with grants
  • Input and management of the preparation of entry process for campaign pledges, designations and other gifts
  • Reconcile receivables to campaign transactions and financial reports
  • Identify and maintain integrity of the chart of accounts. Create and monitoring of internal accounting controls
  • Work in collaboration with COO to prepare financial statements for finance committee and board of directors

Budget:

  • Work with executive team to define annual budgets
  • Present budget recommendations to executive team and in conjunction with the COO to the finance committee
  • Input approved budget into accounting system
  • Prepare budget so that it can be approved by the Board of Directors by the end of the current fiscal year (6/30)

Audit:

  • Lead process for annual audit and Form 990
  • Assist auditor in preparing for the audit including adjustments and/or schedules
  • Ensure that audit requirements are met; ensure that the audit is completed and ready for approval by September Board of Directors’ meeting
  • Meet with auditor within 30 days after completion of the audit to review the management letter, the adjustments, and the recommendations from the auditor regarding compliance and reducing audit risk
  • Ensure that the 990 is completed by the auditors and submitted to the IRS in a timely matter.
  • Assist in special projects as necessary

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • CPA certification highly preferred
  • Two to four years of experience in public/private accounting preferred
  • Non-profit experience preferred
  • Experience with QuickBooks a plus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple, competing priorities
  • Timely and reliable, keeps track of responsibilities and completes them in a timely manner
  • Takes charge in solving problems and can be creative in finding appropriate solutions
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Excellent listening skills and ability to retain and capture concepts

While performing the duty of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work. Light to moderate lifting (30lbs) is required. Regular, predictable attendance is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $58,500.00 – $65,000.00 per year
