United Way of Central Ohio, in collaboration with Parichute and Reynoldsburg City Schools, is taking a significant step toward closing the digital divide for local families. On Jan. 22, 2025, 430 Samsung tablets were distributed to families during the district’s Third Grade Parent Meeting, hosted at elementary schools across Reynoldsburg. Select schools, including Slate Ridge Elementary School, featured in-person distribution events.

“Providing access to technology is not just about devices—it is about opening doors. These tablets empower families to engage in their children’s education, practice literacy skills at home and access vital resources,” said Cheryl Wyatt, Vice President of Success by Third Grade at United Way of Central Ohio. “By working together with Parichute, we’re ensuring that every child has the opportunity to build a strong foundation for lifelong success.”
Kyle Crognale, founder of Parichute, emphasized the value of this partnership. “Through this collaboration, families not only received tablets but also gained access to affordable internet connectivity through Surge, powered by the AT&T network. For just $27 a month, families enjoy 12GB of high-speed data, empowering them to learn and grow wherever they are,” said Crognale. “These tablets also double as hotspots, ensuring that households can connect multiple devices seamlessly.”
“We are thankful to United Way of Central Ohio, not only for providing tablets to our third graders, but for a strong and continuing partnership,” said Reynoldsburg City Schools’ Superintendent, Dr. Tracy R. Reed. “Together, we are breaking down barriers to reading, ensuring that our students have the tools they need to be successful, not only in third grade, but through their entire educational experience.”
The Success by Third Grade movement, spearheaded by United Way of Central Ohio, seeks to ensure that every child is reading proficiently by the end of third grade—a critical milestone for lifelong success. Access to technology and reliable internet is a key factor in achieving this goal, enabling families to utilize online educational resources, support literacy development, and foster essential skills. Why Access Matters
Studies show that children with reliable internet access are better equipped to succeed academically. Digital tools like tablets provide students with opportunities to practice literacy, engage with interactive learning platforms, and access resources that build essential skills. For families, the internet becomes a gateway to critical information, services, and opportunities that can lift entire communities.
