Meet with your committee early and often to discuss goals, communication strategies, incentives and special events
How This Helps
Getting employees involved in various activities helps them feel a part of the campaign and adds an element of fun!
Strategies
- Set campaign goals and publicize them throughout your organization
- Personally ask the donor to increase their gift
- Conduct a leadership giving campaign
- Use suggested giving guidelines (i.e., two hours’ pay per month) with incentives based on giving levels
- Establish a competition between departments based on total dollars raised
- Personalize pledge cards
- Aim for 100% pledge card collection. This ensures that people have considered a gift to the United Way Campaign and made their decision. It does not mean they should be forced to give.
- Schedule events on company calendar
- Ensure everyone knows how United Way works to make this a better community for all of us and the impact their gift will make.
Increase Participation
- Conduct employ presentations; include testimonials and show a campaign PowerPoint presentation/video.
- Increase the number of solicitors. Recruit the right volunteer, provide training on company time, reward and recognize individual performance, arrange for tours of United Way agencies, maintain a one-to-ten (1:10) solicitor-to-employee ratio. Ask solicitors to make their pledge first. Have solicitors personally ask for the pledge.
- Develop incentives tied to participation.
- Increase management support. Have CEO send endorsement letter to employees or have CEO attend rally.
- Encourage interdepartmental competition.
- Set a target to increase participation.
Increase Current Giving
- Promote availability of payroll deduction
- Set a goal to increase giving over the year
- Ask each new giver to give one hour’s pay per month
- Ask current givers to give one hour’s pay per pay period, or more
- Personalize pledge forms with each employee’s name and last year’s gift
- Develop strategies to emphasize Leadership giving
- Work to convert cash/check givers to payroll deduction
Other Giving Campaign Strategies
Meet with United Way staff to develop campaign plan and strategies.
- Include a plan to ensure that each and every employee is asked to give.
- Include a plan for retiree solicitation
- Include a plan to focus on an emphasize Leadership Giving.
- Plan events like bake sales and contests to make the campaign fun!
- Use incentives to gain new supporters and to increase the current giving levels, for example:
