Work with your United Way Relationship Manager to review your company’s giving history and to help set goals for this year
You can discuss ways to communicate the message, create a buzz, and incorporate fun activities that add momentum to your campaign.

How This Helps
Good planning usually starts with good questions. Your answers will give you a strong base to work from as you plan your campaign. Having a plan makes the process smoother and easier for you to implement and manage.
Strategies
- What community issues are most important to your company?
- Who in your company’s management is supporting you?
- Is your company structured by departments, work groups, geographically, other? Consider structuring your campaign team along similar lines.
- Can you incorporate United Way into established company events and communications?
- What would be the best incentive to get employees to participate in the campaign? Day off? Special events? Prizes? Corporate match of their gift?
Setting Your Campaign Goal
Setting clear goals gives your Campaign Committee a firm direction. By reviewing your past year’s campaign numbers, you can gain valuable information to assist in determining this year’s goals. Set a percent participation goal. To ensure that employees do not feel pressured, it is not recommended to set a percent participation goal over 85%.
- First, review last year’s performance and identify any company changes such as reorganization or a change in the number of employees.
- Second, look at how many people gave last year; divide that by the total number of employees to determine your percent participation.
- Next, calculate your average gift amount: divide total employee gift by the total number of givers.
- From these assessments, you can determine an appropriate target for this year’s campaign, and set goals for reaching the new number.
Goal Suggestions
- Increase participation rate
- Increase average gift
- Increase the number of Leadership Givers
- Increase overall employee giving
